VICTORY OF CRICKET

The 12th edition of the IZAARA CRICKET FIESTA 2024 was another thrilling cricketing event under the Izaara Cup cricket series. Displays of camaraderie, great cricketing moments and joie de vivre, a hallmark of the Izaara tournament made some great memories this year.

Izaara Cup 2024 kicked off in style

Held at the scenic Dempsey SCC ground on the 9th and 10th of March, the air was alive with excitement and much anticipated cricket action as 16 teams contested for glory displaying some exceptional sportsmanship and cricketing prowess.

The heavens smiled and frowned occasionally, with beautiful clear blue skies and sunshine on Saturday and showers on Sunday afternoon. But nothing dampened the spirits of these fantastic group of sportsmen who had gathered to play the 12th edition of the Izaara cup 2023. Their passion and goal was CRICKET and cricket alone.

Intermittent showers didn’t dampen the spirit of the game. Tremendous enthusiasm on display by the athletes.

The tournament is a earmarked event on Singapore’s cricket calendar since its inception in 2010 and this much awaited 12th edition brings in cheer, networking & camaraderie, as the players bond without barriers unifying as a team and enjoy the weekend.

The Izaara Cricket fiesta is a fun and lively 8-a-side tournament that has become my flagship annual event, thanks to some great sportsmanship and continued support from a wonderful bunch of sportsmen and teams from the Marine, IT, Banking and others who return to its fold every year. Regular teams, new teams. it’s always the same action packed and fun atmosphere at the Izaara Cricket fiesta. If I may say so with gratitude this is the 2nd largest cricket event after the Mariners cricket.

Izaara has had the privilege of having conceptualized and pioneered the first ever Day and Night Cricket event in Singapore in 2010 and this well-received and much awaited, inclusive annual event, welcomes one and all.

This highly anticipated and competitive tournament is played for the following categories-
• PREMIER
• CHAMPIONS
• CHALLENGE

The teams were split into four groups.

THE SEMI FINALS

Each thrilling semi-final filled the air with loads of energy and excitement. It saw the KSB Mavericks emerging victorious in the closely contested game against Roaring 50’s in the premier cup and the Thunderbolts CC squaring off Kline Warriors in the other Premier Cup finals. Another notable semi-final was Golden CC closely emerging victorious in the Champions Cup in the last over.

The Champions Cup final was an extremely high octane game between the Desi Boyz and Golden CC. The last over saw Golden CC bowler Amirthalingam Ugesh taking one high catch running away towards covers and also one more catch off the last ball by Nivedhan Natarajan to emerge winners of Champions Cup with 2 wickets of last 2

THE FINALS

KSB Mavericks-Winners of the Mizzen digital Izaara Cup 2024

A nail biting finish to the 12th edition of the Izaara Cup. KSB Mavericks tallied their finals victory one up again in this tournament with the young Thunderbolts CC. The trend of the 2 teams competing in the finals as rivals from other tournaments continued here and KSB Mavericks played splendidly across all the games & remained unbeaten in this event.

The rain curtailed few semi-finals and the finals to 5 overs of 4 balls each. A big thank you to all the teams and some spectator efforts as they pulled on the covers and then uncovered it rapidly as soon as the rain stopped . The lively commentary by Vivek and Milind added to the excitement.

Special mention to Thunderbolts CC, as the youngest team in the tournament, full of energy, highly competitive and amazing enthusiasm with beaming smiles.

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS

The bar goes up a notch higher each year, and this year was no different.

This lively tournament in a new and challenging format for this edition saw some some prolific play, with fours and sixes raining form the bats and an impressive display of tight bowling and fielding., with 36 new balls lost to the flora and fauna in this scenic ground.

The bar is raised each year with the increasingly competitive quality of players with each tournament , ensuring that the competitive yet congenial atmosphere of the Izaara Cup is kept alive, year after year.
